The Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communication (DETEC)is the Ministry for Energy in Switzerland. The Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE) is the

office responsible for all questions relating to energy supply and energy use within DETEC.

The DETEC pursues the following objectives:

  1. It creates the necessary conditions for ensuring a sufficient, well diversified and secure energy supply that is both economical and ecologically sustainable.
  2. It imposes high safety standards in the areas of production, transportation and distribution of energy.
  3. It sets out to promote efficient energy use, increase the proportion of renewable energy in the overall energy mix and reduce the level of CO2 emissions.
  4. It promotes and co-ordinates energy research and supports the development of new markets for the sustainable supply and use of energy.

The DETEC runs since long time different energy research programs with a total budget of 26 MCHF. One of them is the Biomass and Wood energy research program. The ERA-Net plus will be managed through this program. Detailed information about the program is available under www.energy.research.ch.
